I'm a distance runner and so are my 5 dogs; They love to run with me. Why? Like Shepherds, most dog breeds were bred to work alongside humans pulling sleds, herding sheep and so on. As a result dogs have enormous energy and an instinctive drive to work at their masters side. When dogs do not get adequate exercise this instinctive energy typically finds release in unwanted behaviors. Lack of exercise is the reason many dogs develop destructive behaviors. A tired dog is a good dog!
